Walker Earns CAA Weekly Honor

The CAA named Lewis Walker rookie of the week.

GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T redshirt freshman Lewis Walker had a fantastic outing in one of the biggest games on the calendar for Aggie fans. Walker registered his first career double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 14 rebounds to help the Aggies defeat North Carolina Central University (NCCU) 69-54 Saturday evening at McDougald-McLendon Arena in Durham, NC.

As a result, Walker also earned his first career weekly honor from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). On Monday, the conference named him CAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Walker is the first Aggie to earn a weekly award since Jahnathan Lamothe was named CAA co-Player of the Week on February 24, 2025.

"Lew has a remarkable work ethic for someone so young," said A&T head coach Monté Ross. "I'm really happy that it is paying off for him."

Walker and the Aggies started the week with a trip to Charlotte to face the 49ers. Early foul trouble hampered Walker's first-half performance, but he still ended the game with 14 points in 29 minutes of action on 4-for-11 shooting from the field and 5-for-6 shooting from the free throw line.

Against the Eagles, he scored seven of his 18 points in the final four minutes of the game, including a 3-point play that gave A&T a 66-50 lead with two minutes to play. He shot 5-for-9 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. For the season, he is shooting 88.3 percent from the line, ranking him third in the CAA.

"The great thing about Lewis is he just doesn't do it for Central versus A&T," said Ross after A&T's win over NCCU. "He brings it every single day in practice. That's just the way he plays. If you practice a certain way, it just becomes second nature when the game comes. And that's the way he is. He's not one of the guys who tries to turn it on when game time comes. That's why he's so good. That's why he's so efficient. He practices at game speed."

For the week, Walker averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 9-for-20 (.450) from the floor and 13-for-16 (.813) from the free throw line. Walker and the Aggies return to action Tuesday night when they travel back to Durham, NC, to face longtime rival Howard University at Duke University's Cameron Indoor Stadium.
