A&T Earns Seven Wins in Field Events at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday

Thomas Smith IV had the lone win in a track event.

WINSTON-SALEM – On Sunday, the North Carolina A&T men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a field day at the JDL Fast Track Flat is Fast Invitational. Together, the teams secured seven wins off the track.

Graduate student Julieth Nwosu set the tone in the first field event of the day by beating out the women's shot put competition with a throw of 51 feet, 7 ¾ inches. Nwosu already leads the Coastal Athletic Conference (CAA) rankings with a mark of 52 feet, 4 inches from the Gamecock Opener.

Following up on the men's side, freshman Alex Henry championed the shot put event with a personal record throw of 53 feet, 7 ¾ inches. Henry doubled back for another record win in the weight throw as he set his new PR to 60 feet, 4 inches.

In her debut performance as an Aggie, senior Spirit Morgan placed first in the women's high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. Morgan is a transfer from the University of Cincinnati, who qualified for the NCAA East First Round in the high jump last outdoor season.

Junior Olivia Dowd took home another win for the Aggies by winning the women's triple jump in 37 feet, 3 ¼ inches, and freshman Stephanie Jackson added more than six inches to her previous PR to earn victory in the women's pole vault in 11 feet, 5 ¾ inches.

Sophomore Yule Pieters finalized the seventh victory for the field athletes in the men's high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 inches.

Holding it down for the runners, junior Thomas Smith IV took the sole win on the track with a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.81.

Next week, the Aggies return to the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex at the University of South Carolina. They will compete at the Carolina Challenge on February 1.
