PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – North Carolina A&T sophomore men's golfer Camilo Marin Raga finished the first round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge by shooting a 71 on the par-72, 6,971-yard True Blue Golf Course on Sunday. Raga is in a nine-way tie for 15th place heading into Monday's competition.

The Aggie men are in 14th place after shooting an 18-over 306 on Sunday, their first round of the 2024-25 men's golf season. They are 29 shots off the lead as Arkansas State entered the clubhouse in the lead at 11-under 277. Austin Peay (282) and Wright State (284) round out the top three.

Raga scored in the red numbers four times on Sunday, including opening the 2024-25 men's golf season with a birdie on the par 5, 599-yard 10th hole. He posted a par and a bogey on his next two holes, respectively, before carding another birdie on the par 4, 410-yard 13th to move back to 1-under for the round.

He remained 1-under until a bogey on the 16th moved him back to even par. He made the turn after a pair of par putts on 17 and 18. After birdieing his first hole on the back nine, Raga came to the first hole on the front nine and did the same. He posted a four on the par 5, 608-yard No. 1 to move his score back into the red numbers at 1-under.

A string of six straight pars kept Raga at 1-under until he bogeyed the eighth hole before finishing his round with a birdie on the par 5, 548-yard No. 9. Raga finished the round shooting 3-under on the five par 5s on the course. He is five shots off the lead behind Austin Peay's Patton Samuels and Wright State's Brock Rumpke. Samuels and Rumpke entered the clubhouse as the leader at 6-under 66.

Freshman Agib Hughes is in a 12-way tie for 49th after he shot a 4-over 76. The great thing about Hughes's opening round is that it is filled with red numbers as he birdied seven of the 18 holes. Unfortunately, he also carded a triple bogey and a quadruple bogey.

Hughes started on the back nine and birdied the 10th hole. He also birdied the par 4, 437-yard 18th. However, his back nine also included the triple and quadruple bogeys and two bogeys as Hughes made the turn at 7-over. Hughes scorched the front nine, however. He birdied four of the first five holes on the front to move to 3-over for the round. He went bogey, birdie, par, and bogey over the final four holes of the first round.

Freshman Javier Morgado finished in a four-way tie for 61st by shooting a 5-over 77. He had one birdie during his round. On Sunday, Freshmen Mauricio Alvarado (82) and Ignacio Zapata (84) also scored for the Aggies. Freshmen Daniel Dominguez and Kasim Narinesingh-Smith played as individuals.

Round 2 gets underway at 9:06 a.m., Tuesday.
