BLACKSBURG, Va. – Two weeks ago, North Carolina A&T added the Virginia Tech Hokies to its schedule for a midweek contest on Wednesday at Tech's Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) member defeated the Aggies 11-0. The Aggies lost for the fifth straight time, dropping to 21-23 overall. The Hokies got two doubles from Eddie Micheletti Jr. to improve to 28-14. The Aggies were shut out for the first time this season and for the first time since losing to Monmouth 2-0 on April 9, 2023.
A&T sent eight pitchers to the mound, starting with senior right-handed pitcher Connor Blantz. Blantz pitched around a walk and an A&T error in the first inning before leaving the game for senior RHP Jake Delisi (L, 3-4). Delisi gave up an unearned run in the second inning before giving way to junior RHP Isaiah Brewington.
Virginia Tech broke the game open with a five-run fifth, including a two-run RBI double from Micheletti Jr. and a two-run single from Clay Grady. Leading 6-0 going into the home sixth, the Hokies added two more runs on an Eddie Eisert two-run single. Home runs from Ben Watson and Nick Locurto closed out Tech's offensive output.
Tech left-handed starter Madden Clement (W, 2-0) pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up two hits and striking out seven. Graduate first baseman Tatsunori Negishi added another two hits to his totals this season, including a double, to bring his batting average up to .384. Senior outfielder TJ Ash also doubled.
The Aggies start a three-game series with Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) foe Northeastern on Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., but the anticipation of inclement weather could change game times for the weekend.
