Women's Tennis Earns Second Straight Win

Tabeth Todoum wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.

GREENSBORO – Even with only four players on the roster, the North Carolina A&T women's tennis team is 2-0 during the young 2024 season after defeating King University 5-0 on Thursday at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

The Aggies received a dominating performance from freshman Tabeth Tadoum. Tadoum won her singles match over Lily Belcher, 6-0, 6-0. Tadoum teamed with Nour Gueblaoui to defeat Mireia Mas Ortega and Belcher 6-2 earlier. Tadoum and Gueblaoui won their first match together after losing to the North Carolina Wesleyan duo last week. But Tadoum, as a singles player, is 2-0. Tadoum said her second collegiate outing was a little better than the first.

"I felt a lot more comfortable out there," said Tadoum. "I managed to stay steady and keep my focus and energy up for all my matches, securing a win for the team. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us, and I look forward to the rest of the season."

Gueblaoui also won at No. 2 singles, defeating Mishka Koricinova 6-2, 6-2. Gueblaoui is also 2-0 as a singles player this season. Gueblaoui pointed to the win with Tadoum as vital.

"It was important for both of us as it is our first win together, and of course, as a team, we got the doubles point," said Gueblaoui after the Aggie duo of Hana El Sherif and Isabela Romanichen defeated Deniz Aytun and Koricinova 6-4.

"I was trying to stay consistent and solid the whole match," said Gueblaoui about her singles matchup. "I was more focused on my game and what I needed to do to prepare myself. And what made the difference today was keeping the same energy the whole match. I'm very happy with our win today, but now we're also focused on our next match. We aim to keep getting better every day and bringing wins home."

A&T had two more singles wins. Romanichen took down Aytun 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and El Sherif defeated Ortega 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. The Aggies are back in action on Saturday when they head to Durham, NC, to face North Carolina Central University.
