Aggies Go 1-1 In Vegas After Sunday Loss to Jackson State

Camian Shell scores a season-high 26 points.

LAS VEGAS – North Carolina A&T could not quite make it two wins in a row in Vegas Sunday night at Michelob ULTRA Arena during the Aggies final game of the Chris Paul HBCU Challenge against the Jackson State Tigers of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Jackson State's Zeke Cook and one with 31 seconds remaining proved too much to overcome as the Tigers defeated the Aggies 68-60.

Sophomore point guard Camian Shell led the Aggies with a season-high 26 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor and 11-for-12 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Landon Glasper, coming off a 31-point performance on Saturday, finished with 16 points.

The Aggies dropped to 1-10 on the season. They finish their non-conference slate at Coastal Carolina on December 21 and at George Mason on December 30. A&T hoped to come away from Vegas with some momentum after defeating the three-time reigning SWAC champion, Texas Southern Tigers, on Saturday.

For the first time all season, the Aggies led at halftime after Glasper's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Aggies a 31-30 lead going into the locker room. But 17 seconds into the first half, Jordan O'Neal scored on a post move in the paint to give the Tigers a 32-31 lead. The Aggies never led again.

JSU took a seven-point lead five times in the second half, the third time on a Ken Evans floater in the lane to give the Tigers a 58-51 lead with 4:17 remaining. Two Shell free throws cut the lead to five before Evans scored again to push the lead back to seven. With three minutes to play, Shell rebounded a Glasper miss and scored to cut JSU's lead to 60-55. Seventy-five seconds later, Shell turned a JSU turnover into another A&T bucket, getting the Aggies to within three.

O'Neal put the Tigers ahead by five with 65 seconds to play on with another post move in the paint. The Aggies countered with two Shell free throws. But the Tigers countered with Cook's 3-point play to take a six-point lead with 31 seconds to play. O'Neal led the Tigers with 24 points and seven rebounds on 11-for-14 shooting.

The Aggies led 14-8 in the first half on a Uchenna Kellman-Nicholes layup with 12:54 remaining in the first half. JSU would lead by as many as six in the first half as O'Neal gave the Tigers a 30-24 advantage on a dunk with 1:37 to play. But the Aggies ended the first half on baskets from Jeremy Robison and Evan Joyner and Glasper's three to cap a 7-0 run.
