BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the home fourth to earn a come-from-behind 6-4 win over North Carolina A&T in non-conference softball play at the Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
After trailing 2-0 after two complete, the Aggies put together four unanswered runs over the third and fourth innings. Senior Jocelyn Bennett started the run with her third home run of 2022, a solo shot to left center.
The Aggies took the lead in the fourth as freshman Icess Tresvik opened the frame with a single to center field. Freshman Dezianna Patmon followed by belting her sixth homer this season, as it landed over the left field fence to give the Aggies a 3-2 advantage.
After Patmon's homer, App State went with Sejal Neas in the circle. Sophomore Alyxx Estrada greeted her with a single to right on a 2-2 pitch. Freshman Jailyn Tineo then doubled down the right field line to move runners into scoring position at second and third.
Neas did earn a strikeout, but sophomore Kiara Richards grounded out to second to score Estrada to put the Aggies ahead 4-2. The inning ended on a Bennett pop-up.
Unfortunately for the Aggies, the Mountaineers had an answer in the home half. App State's Emma Jones hit a two-out, three-run homer to give the Mountaineers the lead a 5-4 lead.
App State added an insurance run in the sixth with a two-out RBI single by Mary Pierce Barnes.
The Aggies put the go-ahead run on base in the seventh. Richards started the inning with a single to right center, followed by a Bennett single to left. Then, freshman Mariah Headen hit an infield single, but junior Latianna Langley, who pinch ran for Bennett, got called out an interference call.
Hammond then singled through the right side to load the bases, but Tresvik hit into a fielder's choice to App State first baseman Baylee Morton. Morton threw home to force out Richards, going home for out No. 2. A Patmon strikeout ended the game and the Aggies threat.
Estrada went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Bennett went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore S'Nyiah Stinson (2-9) picked up the loss giving up five runs in four innings. Junior Kayla Douglas pitched the final two innings giving up one run on two hits.
