GREENSBORO – A tough night on the mound for the North Carolina A&T baseball team resulted in a 13-1 defeat to UNC Greensboro in a non-conference midweek game inside UNCG Baseball Stadium.
The Aggies (12-23) mustered just a single run on an RBI single up the middle from junior infielder Anthony Hennings in the seventh inning.
It was all UNCG (13-22), however, beginning in the UNCG second. Pres Cavanaugh and Dallas Callahan started with back-to-back singles. Then, two batters later, GC Jarman homered to right field. Zack Budzik tripled to follow. A groundout scored Budzik to make it 4-0.
Sophomore right-hander Jake Delisi (L, 0-2) got the nod on the mound for A&T. He went two innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on five hits.
In the fourth inning, Budzik smacked a two-run homer to left field, scoring Jarman. Two batters later, Hogan Windish got in on the action and launched a homer to left.
A&T got its run in the seventh, but the Spartans replied with three more runs in their seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from Budzik.
Jared Mathewson (W, 3-4) notched the win for UNCG after going three scoreless innings, only allowing three hits and a strikeout.
Jarman (3-for-3, 2 R, 5 RBI) and Budzik (3-for-5, 2 R, 4 RBI) combined for six of the Spartans' 18 hits and nine runs batted in. Eleven UNCG batters registered hits in the game, with three recording three hits apiece.
