Softball Loses Two at Auburn Tournament

Tresvik hits her league-leading fifth home run.

AUBURN, Ala. – North Carolina A&T lost both softball games during the second day of the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament hosted by Auburn at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Aggies lost their first game of the day, 10-1 in five innings, to the Chattanooga Mocs. The 20th-ranked Auburn Tigers then defeated the Aggies 6-2. The Aggies (9-9) are 1-1 against the Mocs in the tournament and lost to the Tigers for the second straight day.

On Saturday, freshman Icess Tresvik hit her third home run of the tournament to give her five on the season, tying her for the Big South Conference lead with Radford's Cori McMillan and USC Upstate's Peyton Darnell.

The Aggies struggled to get out of the second inning against the Mocs. The Mocs scored seven runs in the inning, and the Aggies committed three. Jayce Purdy started the scoring with a solo home run to left center field. Two errors led to another run before Emily Coltharp hit an RBI single up the middle to score Reagan Armour. Acelynn Sellers then grounded out to second to score Coltharp to make it a 4-0 game.

A wild pitch scored another run. Purdy led off the inning with a homer and then singled to left. It allowed Olivia Lipari to score, giving the Mocs a 7-0 lead.

Sophomore Kendall Macauley delivered the only run of the game for the Aggies with a two-out single to center to drive home senior Eternal Fuller. The Mocs added two runs in the fourth inning after an RBI double to center by Liz Rodebaugh, and a fielding error made it a 9-1 ballgame.

Freshman Mariah Headen (0-2) picked up the loss in the circle, striking out two. Sophomore Kiara Richards pitched the final 3.1 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

In the Aggies second game, Auburn broke a scoreless tie in the second inning after a Bri Ellis solo home run to left center. Carlee McCondichie followed with a two-run blast to right to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Tresvik's latest home run in the tournament, a two-run shot to center, cut the nationally-ranked Tigers lead to a run in the fourth.

The Tigers scored a run in the home fourth after Rose Roach hit an RBI single to center. Auburn scored its final two runs in the fifth with an inside-the-park home run by McCondichie and an RBI single from Roach.

Patmon went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Tresvik (1-2) picked up the loss pitching 1.1 innings giving up three runs on three hits. Freshman Joey Barkhimer pitched the final 4.2 innings giving up one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts.
