FARMVILLE, Va. – The North Carolina A&T women's team had a tough time against the Longwood Lancers Saturday afternoon at New Lancer Courts.
The Aggies dropped to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in the Big South Conference with a 7-0 loss to the Lancers.
The action started with singles competition after the Aggies forfeited at No. 6. At No. 2, sophomore Manuela Jimenez was defeated by Emma Nurgazieva, 6-0, 6-2. That was followed by a loss at No. 5 by sophomore Trinity Oliver as she lost 6-1, 6-1 to Nina Hederich.
Longwood also won at No. 4 singles as Wiktoria Czerny defeated A&T senior Marlene Estenssoro Pineda, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Florielvis Hurtado Pernaleta concluded her match against Karina Rizanova at No. 1 singles with Rizanova winning 6-4, 6-2.
The last singles match of the day happened at No. 3. Freshman standout Cielo Tapia-Cruz lost to Maria Saez 6-4, 6-1.
Doubles competition only saw one match conclude. Rizvanova and Nurgazieva defeated Estenssoro and Jimenez 6-1. Hurtado and Tapia-Cruz's match against Hederich and Saez went unfinished with the Longwood duo leading 4-3. The Aggies forfeited at No. 3 doubles.
A&T will be back in action Wednesday, March 30 against South Carolina State, at the Dudley High School Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
