Tomaszewski Leads A&T Bowling On Day 2

The Aggies are the sixth seed going into Sunday's bracket play.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – North Carolina A&T secured the No. 6 seed for bracket play on Sunday after Day 2's bowling action at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic on Saturday. A&T is tied for the best record in the tournament at 9-1 but has knocked down a sixth-best 10,102 pins through 10 matches. 

Junior Lauren Tomaszewski turned in a second-place finish in Saturday's individual competition with 1,064 pins for a 232.8 average over five games. 

The Aggies, ranked fifth in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, began their day with a 1,066-978 win over No. 15 Tulane. Tomaszewski led four Aggies with games better than 200 as she had a Saturday-best 248. Senior Cristina Acosta (219), senior Ericka Quesada (216) and sophomore Melanie Katen (212) joined Tomaszewski. 

Next, A&T defeated No. 20 Long Island 1,066-925, with sophomore Laura Garcia's 236 being the high mark in the game. Garcia bowled in all five matches for A&T on Saturday, knocking down 989 pins for a 197.8 average to finish 48th. 

In their third match of the day, the Aggies faced Jackson State and narrowly defeated the Tigers, 984-937. Katen put forth a team-high 236 in the game, pacing her to a 33rd-place finish with 1,028 total pins. 

A&T bowled their best collective game in the fourth match of the day, a 1,098-930 triumph over No. 21 Lewis University. Garcia's 247 was the difference in the win. She was aided by Tomaszewski (237), Quesada (217) and Acosta (206). 

Quesada's 217 was her best game of the day, as she finished 27th with 1,036 total pins. Acosta waited until the final match of the day to provide her best score, a 220, in a narrow 1,016-1,014 defeat at the hands of No. 7 Louisiana Tech. Acosta tallied a 42nd-place finish with 1,011 pins knocked down in five matches. 

The sixth-seeded Aggies are slated to take on No. 5 seed and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Maryland Eastern Shore in the first round of bracket play on Sunday. A&T is 2-1 this season against UMES.
