ORLANDO, Fla. – The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University bowling team surged in the standings on the second day of the 20206 Destination Florida tournament hosted by Sacred Heart at Boardwalk Bowl on Saturday.

The ninth-ranked Aggies in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 poll went 4-1 on Saturday, posting a 5,218 total pinfall to move from seventh place on Friday to fourth place after Saturday's traditional team play competition concluded. The Aggies will play one more traditional match before Sunday's best-of-seven bracket competition begins in Baker Format. Top-ranked Jacksonville State leads the tournament with a total pinfall of 10,953, averaging 219.1 for the tournament. Second-ranked Vanderbilt follows with 10,704 (214.1), and Nebraska is third with 10,679 (213.6).

Individually, senior Savannah Burgin led the Aggies with a top-5 finish. Burgin is in fifth place with a total pinfall of 1,140, averaging 228.0 over five games. Junior Victorya White is directly behind her teammate in sixth place with a 1,127 total pinfall, averaging 225.0 over five games. Jax State's Kaitlyn Stull is firs place with a 1,226 total pinfall.

A&T has 10,347 total pinfall, averaging 205.0 pins over 50 games. The Aggies enter Sunday with an 8-2 record, despite not getting off to the start they wanted. They opened with a lineup of freshman Charisse Graham, sophomore Alexa Escamilla, Burgin, White, and senior Payton Hartgrove against 17th-ranked Tulane.

Tulane got a nearly perfect game from Malia Briggs, who bowled a 299 to lead the Green Wave to a 1,100-949 win over the Aggies. Burgin led the Aggies with a 225 total pinfall, followed by White's 201. After the loss, the Aggies ripped off four straight wins to climb up the standings. That streak gives them 14 wins in their last 16 matches.

Their strong play on Saturday started with a win over fellow HBCU Alabama State. Graham played well for A&T, posting a 257 total pinfall. White added a 246 as the Aggies defeated the Hornets 1,089-933. Burgin contributed another 219 total pinfall. A&T then faced another HBCU, Southern, and won easily, 1,032-791.

A&T carried the momentum from the wins over Alabama State and Southern into its matchup against sixth-ranked Youngstown State and came away with an impressive win, defeating the Penguins 1,062-960. White recorded her fourth straight match with more than 200 pinfall, this time with an impressive 269. Burgin added a 214 total pinfall, and junior Jasmine Hall contributed 206.

The Aggies closed the day with a win over 11th-ranked Wright State. They defeated the Raiders behind Burgin's 256 total pinfall. Hartgrove stepped in and bowled a 236, followed by Hall, who added 222 total pinfall. The Aggies will look for their third consecutive top-5 finish in Sunday's conclusion of the Destination Florida tournament.
