A&T Indoor T&F Women Earn Two Victories

A&T earns wins in the women's 1000 meters and the women's triple jump.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Even on a day where not many North Carolina A&T men's and women's track and field athletes competed, the Aggies still came away with two first-place finishes.

On Saturday, the Aggies competed on the second day of the Camel City Invitational held at the JDL Fast Track.

After earning six first-place finishes on Friday, the Aggies added to their first-place totals with wins in the women's 1000 meters and the women's triple jump. The Aggies also picked up a second-place finish in the women's 800 meters.

Senior Ayoola Gbolade earned her second first-place finish of the season by winning the 1000m. Gbolade crossed the finish line in 2:54.72

Saturday marked the second time in her collegiate career that Gbolade competed in the 1000. She ran in the event as a freshman at UConn in 2019. Two weeks ago, Gbolade won the 600m at JDL.

Sophomore Arrieya Harper took care of the things for the Aggie women in field events. She jumped 39-feet, 3-inches for the win. It marked her fourth career triple jump win. It was her second win in the triple this season after winning at JDL two weeks ago.

Freshman Fajr Kelly did not enter the winner's circle on Saturday, but she did perform well. She recorded a 2:14.06 to finish second in the 800. Last week Kelly ran a 2:12.15 at Clemson University's Bob Pollock Invitational.

The Aggies, who had the men earn the nation's top-ranking last week, will return to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Facility. Two weeks later, the Aggies will return to JDL to compete in their first-ever Big South Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb. 24-25.
