RADFORD, Va. – North Carolina A&T men's tennis dropped its Big South Conference opener 6-1 against the Radford Highlanders Saturday at the Radford Tennis Complex.
Vasil Ivanov won his singles match at the No. 2 position. Guilherme Severin defeated Ivanov 6-4 in the first set, but Ivanov battled back and won the second set 6-2. In the final set, Ivanov defeated Severin 1-0 (8).
Radford won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
Ethan Baly and Ian Pedersen won at No. 3 singles 6-4 against Aditya Balsekar and Robert Hagen to take an early lead in the doubles point.
The Highlanders tied the doubles point after Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva defeated
Esteban Lopez and Ivanov 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles. Radford won the doubles point after Severin and Konstantinos Raptis defeated
Eder Blanco and Jorge Perez 6-4 at the No. 2.
Radford increased its lead to 2-0 after Balsekar defeated Pedersen 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and took a 3-0 lead after Silva defeated Blanco 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Highlanders clinched the match after Hagen defeated Baly 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 and took a 5-0 after Raptis defeated Perez 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4. Radford extended its lead to 6-0 after Taramonlis defeated Lopez 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 and Ivanov won at his No. 2 position to give the Aggies a point.
