CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina used a 10-run fifth inning to defeat North Carolina A&T in non-conference softball action, 10-2 in five innings at Anderson Stadium.
Sophomore Kendall Macauley started the scoring with a solo home run to center field in the second inning to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies scored another run in the fourth inning to increase their lead. Freshman Dezianna Patmon started the inning with a walk.
Sophomore Kayla Taylor reached on an error with one out before freshman Jailyn Tineo delivered the Aggies a 2-0 lead with a double to center to drive home Patmon. However, a strikeout and a pop fly to the first baseman ended the Aggies threat.
Kiana Jones and Sara Jubas delivered the Tar Heels two most significant blows. First, Jubas hit a two-RBI single to center field to give UNC a 7-2 lead. Jones followed with a three-run home run to center put the Tar Heels up eight.
Sophomore S'Nyiah Stinson and freshman Jazzmaine Hammond also had hits in the game. Jones drove in four runs for the Tar Heels.
