Bowling Remains Undefeated In Conference Play

The Aggies went 4-0 on Saturday at MEAC Meet #2.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The North Carolina A&T women's bowling team went 4-0 Saturday during the first day of the second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) meet of the season, hosted by Norfolk State.

A&T, ranked sixth in the country in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, is now 12-0 in conference play. The ladies got the benefit of a warm-up match, bowling in a 'bye' game to open the competition.

Their first real match came against 18th-ranked Morgan State, whom the Aggies handled 1,070-992, thanks to four 200-plus scores from Melanie Katen (244), Chloe Newberry (234), Cristina Acosta (230) and Pamela Warr (202).

A&T next faced Coppin State and narrowly defeated the Eagles, 850-817. Katen carried the load with her 200, the only Aggie to eclipse that mark in the match.

The Aggies turned their attention toward the Howard Bison. Quesada (215) and Warr (203) paced A&T to a 953-754 victory over the Bison. Acosta also contributed a 200 in the match.

In their final match of the day, the Aggies squared off against 14th-ranked Delaware State. Freshman Maya Avilez, in the only match she played on Saturday, exploded onto the scene, bowling a 252, the highest score of any A&T bowler on Saturday.

Three other Aggies joined her in plus-200 territory – Lauren Tomaszewski (227), Warr (223) and Quesada (220) – en route to a 1,109-978 victory over the Hornets.

Tomorrow's competition will determine seeding for the upcoming MEAC championships, slated to begin March 25th in Chesapeake.
