A&T Beats Robert Morris, Gets Walk-Off Win Against Howard

Eternal Fuller goes 6-for-11 in A&Ts first four games.

EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T softball picked up its first two wins of the season Saturday. The Aggies defeated Robert Morris 4-1 early in the day before using a two-run RBI walk-off single later to beat the Howard Bison, 7-6 at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

A&T improved to 2-2 on the young season.

"This team knew that we were running out of daylight as far as a halted game; there's no guarantee that we are going to play tomorrow," said A&T coach Patti Raduenz referring to the fact the teams were losing daylight as 6 p.m. approached in the game against the Bison. "We didn't want to go down with a loss because we hate to lose."

The Aggies trailed Howard 5-0 after the first 1 ½ innings of the game. A&T did score a run in the home half of the second as sophomore Kendall Macauley scored on a wild pitch. A&T cut into Howard's lead even further with three runs in the third powered by two A&T extra base hits.

Graduate Jazzmaine Hammond started the rally with a one-out triple, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Alyxx Estrada. Freshman Icess Tresvik then hit a double to put runners on second and third for Macauley, who grounded out to second to score Estrada. The Bison then unleashed a wild pitch to score Tresvik to make it a 5-4 ballgame.

Each team added a run in the fourth before the seventh inning heroics.

Senior Eternal Fuller started the fun by beating out a throw from Howard shortstop Jada Green to earn an infield single. The Bison then went with Raye Thomas to pitch against Hammond. Hammond greeted her with a double that made it over first baseman Victoria Brown's glove to put runners on second and third with no outs.

Estrada then delivered her single to the right field for the walk-off win. However, Raduenz said she thought of another strategy before Estrada's big hit.

"Eternal has had a fantastic weekend, getting a leadoff hit for us with the small game by putting that ball in play," said Raduenz. "Jazz with that big hit welcoming the new pitcher. We tried to put a squeeze in there to catch them by surprise. Then Alyxx does what Alyxx does, an RBI machine. She's just a pure hitter."

Sophomore Kiara Richards (1-0) was credited with the win in the circle. Thomas (0-1) got the loss. Offensively, Fuller went 2-for-3 with a run scored against the Bison. Over the Aggies first games this weekend, Fuller went 6-for-11 and scored three times.

Hammond had a 2-for-4 outing, including a double and a triple, and she scored twice.
Macauley also had two hits, drove in a run and scored. Estrada drove in three runs, posted two hits and scored once in four at-bats.

"When the ball was hit, I just sat there, and I was amazed," Estrada said of her game-winner. "I was like, 'my girls got my back. They are running home. We just won the game.' I couldn't be happier."

A&T had a happy time in the circle before the Howard win. Tresvik pitched a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 12 and surrendering only one run.

"For your collegiate start, that's not a bad bottom," Raduenz said. "But she's continuing what she did prior to college. She's continuing to grow and be a great college player."

RMU's only run against Tresvik came in the visitor's first on an RBI groundout. But, freshman Dezianna Patmon had an answer for that in the Aggies second. She hit a towering shot to left field for her first career home run.
Fuller came through again for the Aggies and gave Tresvik all the run support she needed later in the inning with a two-run RBI single to score junior Latianna Langley and junior pinch runner Moriah Terry for a 3-1 lead. A&T added a run in the fifth with an RBI sacrifice fly from Estrada to score Langley.

In the seventh, the Colonials did load the bases against Tresvik, but Tresvik ended the game with strikeout No. 12 against as Alaina Koutsogiani went down on strikes. Jane Garver (0-1) got the loss in the circle for the Colonials. Langley led the Aggies offensively by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

"I'm proud of the team in the first game," said Raduenz. "They battled tough and had some quality at-bats. We cut down on our strikeouts as well."
