Coach Washington on wide receiver Zach Leslie's performance: "The old man and I have been doing this for a while together. Watching him and how he goes about it daily is remarkable."
Cornerback Aaron Harris on what he saw on his two interceptions on Saturday: "On the first one, the defensive line did a good job of making him scramble out of the pocket. I saw the ball coming and made a play on the ball. On the second one, I always hear Coach Washington say believe what you see. I just believed in it and made a play on the ball."
Zach Leslie on what kind of defense they were playing against him: "When I was outside, they stuck to what they normally do, and I was able to get the ball in my hand and after that use what God gave me."
Zach Leslie on the play action plays to running back Bhayshul Tuten that got him open: "Teams have to stop more than one person on our offense. Teams think we are just a running team, but we have a lot of people on the outside who can make plays, so when you stack the box or bring the safeties up, we can make plays off of the play action. That allows us to make a play, and that is what we were able to do today."
Coach Washington on how to clean up the penalties going forward: "I can't say what I would like to say. We are going to have to find a way. One of the things when it comes to this type of teaching is negative reinforcement. We like to find ways to punish or penalize people to get the response we want. That could jeopardize the team when you do stuff like that. But at this point, I feel it's necessary."
Coach Washington on the number of healthy Quarterbacks he has: "Two. One and a half really ... I think that with Jalen will be fine. There was a sprain, but it isn't a high ankle sprain. It is not one of those severe deals, so I am hoping for the best."
Coach Washington on who is the backup quarterback if one goes down: "We have another quarterback. Roman Purcell. He is working with the scout team, but he is practicing every day. He knows the offense, but he doesn't know it as well as the other guys. He's only been here since the summer, but he's been here long enough that if we need him to take some snaps, he could."
Coach Washington on what it's like going up against one of his former players in Norfolk State head Dawson Odums: "It's always a joy and a pleasure to watch the guys that you have coached and see where they are today and how they have grown and developed. He has a good football team. They are coming."
Coach Washington on the final stretch with two last games: "The upcoming game (Charleston Southern) is very similar to this one. I like to call them trap games. It's against a team that is not winning but isn't playing badly. They will put it all together at that one moment; you just don't want it to be you on the opposing side when it happens. I'm hoping we can get some of this flu stuff under control this week. We've returned to masks 100 percent and tried to take electrolytes to boost our immune systems. We have also been drinking water and Gatorade. We'll see."
