The eighth-ranked team in the nation, according to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), Youngstown State, defeated No. 7, Fairleigh Dickinson, to earn a date with the Aggies in the second round.

It was a match that A&T quickly won, 4-0. The Aggies outbowled the Penguins, 853-753, in the match.

Sixth-ranked Louisiana Tech handled Fairleigh Dickinson to advance to the next round to face A&T.
