EAST GREENSBORO – The Big South Conference released their preseason all-conference team on Tuesday. North Carolina A&T's Edie Brewer (6-foot, 5th-year SR, West Chester, Ohio) earned preseason accolades from the league after being named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) player of the year the past two seasons.

The Big South also released its preseason poll, with the Aggies picked to finish sixth in their new conference.

"We are very excited that Edie was named to the Big South preseason all-conference team," coach Hal Clifton said. "It's so nice to see that the coaches in our league recognize the body of work that Edie has completed the past four years as an Aggie. To make this team is a great honor as the players in the Big South are so good top to bottom."

In addition to being the best player in the MEAC the past two seasons, Brewer also earned outstanding performer honors after leading the Aggies to their first-ever MEAC tournament title in March. As a result, the Aggies also made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The setter has also been named honorable mention American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) south region team the last two seasons.

Big South coaches expect High Point University to repeat as champions with 119 points and 10 first-place votes. Coaches picked Campbell to finish second with 105 points and one first-place vote, followed by Winthrop with 94 points and Charleston Southern with 91 points. High Point advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after a 3-2 win over Central Florida.

Fifth, sixth and seventh place were separated by five points, starting with UNC Asheville picked fifth (64 points) followed by A&T with (63 points) and USC Upstate (59 points). The top six schools qualify for the Big South Tournament in Buies Creek, N.C.

After USC Upstate, Presbyterian expected to finish eighth with 43 points, followed by Radford with 39 points, Gardner-Webb with 25 points and Hampton with 24 points.

All seven preseason players were either named on the first or second team during the spring season of 2021. Maddy Smith of High Point was named the preseason player of the year.

The Aggies start the season with a trip to Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Invitation in the last weekend of Aug.
