EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T dropped a midweek, cross-town matchup against the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 23-0, on Tuesday evening inside War Memorial Stadium in non-conference baseball.
UNCG (10-2) wasted no time getting going; plating runs in each of the first six innings en route to a 20-0 lead. The Spartans offensive onslaught was highlighted by their eight-run top of the fourth inning.
The Aggies (4-8) did not get the start they were hoping for from their pitching staff. Freshman right-hander Xavier Meachem got the start for A&T but only went 1.0 inning, giving up six runs on four hits with one strikeout. The Aggies burned through six pitchers in the first four innings.
Sophomore RHP Brendan Collins got the Spartans' nod and pitched 5.0 innings allowing just one hit with six strikeouts, earning his first win of the season.
Senior Shane Faulk made a pinch-hit appearance in the bottom of the fifth to secure the Aggies first hit. He was one of four Aggies to record a hit, joined by senior Camden Williamson, sophomore Cameran Brantley and freshman Alex Reyna.
The Spartan offense put together 13 hits, led by freshman center fielder Pres Cavenaugh's 2-for-4 day, including a home run and team-high five RBI.
The Aggies will be back at #TheWar on Friday, March 12 at 4 p.m. when they welcome the Elon Phoenix.
