The Aggies Finish Top-3 at Another Tournament

The Aggies defeated Vanderbilt in seven games.

MILLSBORO, Del. – The North Carolina A&T finished third at Maryland-Eastern Shore's Hawk Classic bowling tournament following Sunday's bracket play. The Aggies, ranked fifth in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), have finished in the top-3 in all four tournaments this season.

In the first match, A&T faced No. 3 seed Farleigh Dickinson.

The Aggies fell behind after dropping Game 1, 179-144, but bounced back with a match-high 235 in the second game. With the match tied at 2, two sub-200 games from A&T allowed FDU to win, 4-2.

FDU finished second, losing to top-seeded Sam Houston State in the title match, 4-0. The Aggies faced Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Delaware State in the second round.

A&T dropped the first game but fired three straight 230-plus games to take a 3-1 lead. Del State won the fourth game before A&T finished them off with a 236 in Game 5 to win the match, 4-2.

The final match of the day was the third-place game between the Aggies and the Vanderbilt Commodores. The teams were 1-1 against each other this season as they traded knockout blows.

The match reached a 2-2 status before the nationally-ranked Commodores took a 3-2 lead. The Aggies saved their Sunday best for the final two games, posting a 247 and a 235 to win the seven-game series, 4-3.

With the final tournament of the fall comes a two-month hiatus before the Aggies will compete again. The Long Island University Northeast Classic will be Jan. 21-23 in Deptford, N.J.
