Aggies Open Tournament With Loss to Charlotte

Four different Aggies had a hit.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina A&T softball started the First Pitch Classic with a 10-0 loss in five innings to Charlotte Friday afternoon at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium

Four Aggies recorded a hit. Junior second baseman Stephanie Williams, junior catcher Samantha Ramirez, sophomore left fielder Tivonia Cole and sophomore center fielder Eternal Fuller each went 1-for-2.

Charlotte (2-5) broke a scoreless tie with nine runs in the bottom of the second inning after two runners were forced in because of bases-loaded walks, a grand slam, an RBI single, a run scored on an error and a wild pitch allowed the final run to score in the inning.

The Aggies (0-2) had the best opportunity to score in the top of the fourth inning. Williams and Ramirez started the inning with back-to-back singles. But after a fly out to left field and a strikeout, advanced the runners to second and third, a groundout to second base ended the inning.

Charlotte scored the final run of the game with an RBI walk in the fourth inning.

The 49ers were led by Bailey Vannoy going 1-for-2 with a run scored and four RBI. The Aggies play twice on Saturday with Morehead State at 10 a.m. and Rhode Island at 12:30 p.m. They finish the tournament Sunday with Rhode Island at 9 a.m. and Morehead State at 11:30 a.m.
