EAST GREENSBORO – Junior guard
Kameron Langley got his own rebound late in the game to make North Carolina A&T men's basketball history as he led the Aggies to an 82-67 win over Delaware State on Monday night in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's basketball action.
Langley dropped a triple-double with 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for the first Aggies triple-double in recent history. Langley also swiped five steals for the second-straight game. Langley leads the MEAC in total assists (147) and assists per game and he is second steals per game (2.0).
"It's an honor," said Langley. "I'm blessed to be in this position. Shot out to my teammates. They've been hitting shots these past few games and I just try to trust my work and trust my teammates and luckily, I got the triple-double today."
Langley continues to make an assault on the MEAC and school assist records. He needs 91 to break the conference record and 50 to break the school mark.
There were other impressive performances on Monday night. Senior forward
Ronald Jackson secured his four straight double and his 11
th of the season with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Fred Cleveland, Jr. also scored 16 points including four 3-pointers.
Andre Jackson added 10 points to round out double-figure scoring for the Aggies.
N.C. A&T (10-12, 6-1 MEAC) led for the majority of the game. Langley started off the night strong with a rebound and putback layup on the first possession for the Aggies. Down 11-8, the Aggies utilized a 10-0 run to take an 18-11 lead with 13:49 left in the first half.
With N.C. A&T clinging to a 25-22 lead, the Aggies outscored the Hornets 21-9 the remainder of the period to take a 46-31 lead into the locker room.
A sluggish start for the Aggies allowed the Hornets to cut the deficit to 11, 46-35, in the first two minutes of the second half. Junior guard
Kwe Parker got the scoring going with a bucket in the lane for the Aggies. Then, the highlight reel began.
Ronald Jackson jumped in front of a pass for a steal, tossed an outlet pass to Langley, and then Langley returned the favor with an off-the-backboard lob that Jackson finished with a tomahawk alley-oop slam. After the Hornets pulled within eight, 56-48, with 11:18 to play. The Aggies went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-point lead with 10 minutes to play.
Delaware State (2-17, 1-4 MEAC) never go any closer than 14 the rest of the way. N.C. A&T secured their 20
th straight win at home against MEAC opponents. Omari Peek-Green led the way for Delaware State with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Aggies held John Crosby, MEAC's leading scorer, to just eight points on 3-for-17 shooting.
The Aggies will clash with Norfolk State on Saturday, Feb. 1 for first place in the conference. Tip is set for 4 p.m. at the Corbett Sports Center.
