Aggies Lose Monday Morning Contest to FAMU

EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T lost to Florida A&M 13-2 Monday in the series finale between the two teams at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex. The Rattlers (18-23, 9-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won all three games in the series.

Sophomore Hailee Cutts led the team with three hits while senior Zadia Davis recorded two hits and scored a run and sophomore Samantha Ramirez recorded two RBI. In the circle, Mohagony Headen (1-13) picked up the loss after pitching 5.2 innings.

FAMU scored a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead after Alexis Day hit an RBI single.

The Aggies (8-23, 5-4 MEAC) had opportunities in the bottom half to score a run after a catcher Nikki Varela walked and a Cutts single put runners on the corners with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning.

In the Aggies second, Headen reached on an error, shortstop Alyssa Smith singled to right field and another error allowed Davis to reach to load the bases with no outs.  But a groundout to the second baseman cut the lead runner out at home. With one out, a strikeout and a pop up ended the inning.

The Rattlers added three runs in the third inning after a three-run double to right field by Seriah Brokenborough to give FAMU a 4-0 lead. The Aggies had another opportunity in the fourth inning to score a run after singles from Davis and freshman Eternal Fuller single. Varela was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning.

FAMU scored three runs in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 7-0 after an RBI single by Tyra Bowers and Taylor Rosier singled to center field to drive home two Rattlers. N.C. A&T got on the board in the bottom half of the inning after Ramirez pinched hit to drive in two runs with a double to right center to cut the lead to 7-2.

FAMU scored the final six runs of the game in the seventh inning. The Rattlers were led by Bowers going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. The Aggies are back in action this weekend with a trip to Daytona Beach, Fla., to face Bethune-Cookman in a three-game series starting Friday.
