WILMINGTON (March 9, 2018) – North Carolina A&T softball lost the first two games of the Seahawk Softball Showcase hosted by UNC Wilmington at Boseman Field. The Aggies lost their first game to host UNCW, 4-0 before falling to Youngstown State 10-2.
The Aggies got a strong pitching performance from junior Zadaisha Waddell who went six innings, only gave up two earned runs and struck out four. The Aggies only produced three hits for Waddell and Stephanie Williams had the only extra-base hit with a double in the seventh. Waddell and junior Morgan Chisholm and the other two hits.
Haley Lenderman got the win for the Seahawks after pitching four shutout innings where she struck out four and walked one. The Seahawks finally gave her some breathing room in the fifth inning. UNCW led 2-0 going into the inning. Tracy Haynes doubled to open the frame. Waddell retired the next two batters before an error allowed Haynes to score and Lacey Fox to reach. Fox stole second and Hunter Bizzell brought her home with a single to give the Seahawks a 4-0 lead.
N.C. A&T four runners get into scoring position during the game. Their biggest scoring threat came in the third when Hailee Cutts earned a one-out walk followed by a single from Chisholm. A sacrifice bunt by junior Zadia Davis moved both runners into scoring position before a groundout ended the inning.
In the second game, the Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the second as Waddell reached second an error. Pinch runner Taylor Martin replaced Waddell and moved to third on a sac bunt from Williams. Martin scored on an RBI single from Cutts. But YSU scored four in the second and six in the third to break the game open. Cutts drove in another run in the fourth as she came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit into a fielder's choice Samantha Ramirez from third. Cutts took the loss in the circle while Paige Geanangel got the win.
