GREENSBORO (February 19, 2017) – North Carolina A&T softball finished the Aggie Invitational with a win over University of Maryland Baltimore County 3-1 on Sunday at Aggie Softball Complex to improve to 5-5 this season.
Zadasia Waddell would put up five innings from the circle, only allowing two hits while striking out six. She was just as effective at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a two-run RBI single in the third to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead. Alexandria Simmons and Nathaly Pacheco each had two hits apiece in the game, as well, each also scoring a run.
In a game cut short due to a late start, the Aggies were able to get eight hits and three RBI after responding to UMBC's run scored in the top of the third. The Aggies had left two runners on base in both the first and second inning and were determined to secure a victory over the Retrievers.
Pacheco was hit by a pitch to reach first and advanced on a single by Simmons up the middle. A single from Jillian Nobles advanced the runners once more as Waddell stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded. Her single was far enough to score Pacheco and Simmons, moving Nobles to second as Waddell reached second on the throw. A single up the middle by Kimberly Brunson helped Nobles cross the plate for the Aggies third and final run of the game. However, as the inning moved forward, a fly out to center field from Raven Gray would end the inning with three Aggies still on base.
The Aggies will resume play at Aggie Softball Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a game against Appalachian State at 3 p.m.
