Box Score

SAVANNAH, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2016) – North Carolina A&T volleyball stayed discipline, followed the game plan and overcame some third-set adversity to come away with a three-set win over Savannah State Friday night at Wilcox-Wiley Gym. It was the Aggies 13th straight win over the Tigers.

Fifth-year middle blocker Te'Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth's accuracy continued. She posted eight kills with only one attack error while recording a .500 hitting percentage. She also had five block assists. Senior Liz Martino produced 31 assists and five digs. Junior Jasmine Lindor, the team's leader in blocks, added six more to her total with four block assists and two solo blocks.  Junior Samara Brown led the team with 11 kills, and junior Alyssa Pitt remained consistent, slamming down six kills with one attack error (.333).

Freshman Christa Wilson contributed with seven kills and five total blocks. The Aggies (3-9, 1-0 MEAC) finished the night with 12 team blocks.

N.C. A&T hit .200 or higher in each of their three sets, producing a season-high .223 hitting percentage.  The best set of the evening came in the second where the Aggies had 12 kills and four errors on 33 attempts to head into the break hitting .242. Savannah State did not just surrender the match to the Aggies, however.

The Aggies trailed 17-16 in the third before a Lindor kill tied things at 17. Kills by Brown and Hawkins-Hollingsworth extended that lead to 19-17. An Alaina Monroe attack error put the Aggies on the verge of clinching the match. But the Tigers (0-19, 0-3 MEAC) scored the next four points to tie it at 24.

A Wilson kill gave the Aggies the lead back before Caitlyn Masoe tied the match again. N.C. A&T had a kill from Samara Brown and an attack error by Alaina Monroe to close out the match. The Aggies travel to South Carolina State for a 2 p.m., match on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Dukes Gymnasium in Orangeburg, S.C.  The Bulldogs are 0-19 (0-3 MEAC) after a 3-1 loss to N.C. Central on Friday.
