A&T Comes Up Short at Gardner-Webb

Box Score

BOILING SPRINGS (September 14, 2016) – North Carolina A&T volleyball fell on the road Tuesday night as Gardner-Webb claimed a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-12) win over the Aggies.

“We didn't have our best night, and I have to give all the credit to Gardner-Webb for coming out in full gear all night,” said head coach Hal Clifton. “We couldn't get things going and that makes it hard to be competitive.”

Jasmine Lindor came out with the top hitting percentage at .143 with five kills and three errors on 14 attempts. Fellow junior Alyssa Pitt had a team-leading seven kills.  Sophomore setter Kayla Finnerty had 20 assists and two kills on no attack errors in three attempts.  The Aggies played the strongest in the first set, hitting .176 with Te'Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth producing three kills and no errors.

The Aggies stuck with the Runnin' Bulldogs to tie the second set at 16 before GWU went on a six-point run on their way to a 25-17 win.  Errors proved costly for N.C. A&T throughout the contest, totaling 20 attack errors, five service errors, serve receive errors and three blocking mishaps.

Comparatively, the Runnin' Bulldogs hit .536 in the first set on their way to a final .333 throughout the match with 41 kills.  GWU was led by Kiera Moore with 13 kills and one error on 18 attempts to reach a .667 hitting percentage.

Action continues next week as the Aggies travel to Buies Creek to take on Campbell at Gore Arena Tuesday, Sept 20 at 7 p.m.  The Camels (4-7) are the third consecutive team N.C. A&T will face from the Big South Conference.
