GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The score looks almost identical unfortunately for the North Carolina A&T men's basketball team. The Aggies lost to the University of Florida 104-54 Monday Night at the O'Connell Center. The score was almost the same the last time the Aggies played in Gainesville during the 2010-11 season. That time the Gators defeated the Aggies 105-55.
On Monday, senior Bruce Beckford led the Aggies with 16 points and five rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting. Redshirt sophomore Sam Hunt added 13 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the free throw line. The Gators (2-0) put six players in double figures. DeVon Walker and Devin Robinson led the way with 15 points apiece. Dorian Finney-Smith added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Gators made an impressive 15-for-29 from 3-point range and they 53.6 percent from the floor. In their only two meetings versus N.C. A&T, the Gators are a combined 24-for-51 (.471) from 3-point range and they have shot a combined 55.6 percent.
The game got away from the Aggies (0-2) early as the Gators opened the first five minutes of the game on an 18-2 run. The Aggies did respond by scoring the next five on a Beckford layup and 3-pointer. Devin Robinson's three ended the mini run and ignited an 8-0 run that put the Gators ahead 26-7 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
Florida's largest lead of the half was 22 until Robinson hit a three at the buzzer in the first half to go into the locker room ahead 52-27.
N.C. A&T is back in action 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Corbett Sports Center as they come home to play their home opener against Roanoke College.
