LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty second baseman Kelly Strickland hit a walk-off single to lead Liberty to a 9-8 win over the North Carolina A&T softball team Tuesday night at Liberty Softball Field. The win gave the Flames a doubleheader sweep of the Aggies after winning the first game 13-5.

Sophomore Sabrina Edmonds continued her outstanding play at the plate by going a combined 5-for-6  over the two games. In the second game, Edmonds recorded hit two two-run home runs and recorded four RBI. In her last seven games, Edmonds is 10-for-19 (.526) with three home runs, seven RBI and one double. In that span, her batting average has jumped 89 points from .180 to .269.

In the second game, freshman Raven Smith chipped in by going 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, including her second home run of the season. Juanita Jernigan added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Aggies tied the game in the seventh inning on Edmonds' two-run homer to center field. The Flames opened their half of the seventh with a Sammi Shivock walk. Kaylee West moved Shivock to second with a sacrifice bunt. A&T starter Alexandria McAfee (1-9) gave the Aggies promise by getting ahead in the count 0-2. But Strickland took the third pitch in the at-bat up the middle to lead the Flames (13-23) to victory.

A&T made three comebacks throughout the game. Down 4-1 in the going into the fourth inning, Edmonds hit the first of her two home runs on Tuesday with a two-run shot to right field. The Flames picked up another run in their half of the fourth before the Aggies were able to take the lead in the fifth.

Jernigan cut the Flames lead to 5-4 with an RBI single that scored Tranea Jones who reached on a double. The Aggies, who had a 1-0 lead in the second, reclaimed that lead thanks to Smtih's two-run homer.

Shivock and Marybeth Sciolino each drove in runs in the bottom of the fifth to give the Flames a 7-6 lead. They took an 8-6 lead in the sixth inning thanks to a solo home run by Meredith Crisante, setting up another Aggies comeback.

The Aggies (12-21) will return to action this weekend when they travel to Savannah State for a three-game series between two teams who are on the heels of the MEAC Southern Division's first place team Bethune-Cookman.  The two teams will play at 1 p.m., doubleheader on Saturday before playing at noon on Sunday.
