GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T baseball team received another strong pitching performance, but eight runners were left on base for the Aggies in a 4-2 loss to Princeton at War Memorial Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Dairio Little led the Aggies with three hits. Freshman Luke Tendler added two hits. N.C. A&T starter Esterlin Paulino had a strong performance. He pitched seven innings, surrendered just four hits and struck out seven.
He ran into trouble in the sixth inning. A throwing error led to a run by Nate Baird who reached on a double. Mike Ford gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead when he singled to left field, scoring Matt Bowman who reached on the throwing error. Jonathan York ended the Tigers rally with a triple to left field to score Ford for a 4-1 lead.
The Aggies put together a strong eighth in an attempt to take the lead. Marquis Riley kept the inning going when Ford misplayed his groundball at first base with two outs. Little put runners on first and second with a single.
The Tigers turned to reliever David Palms to slow down the Aggies. But Tendler's groundball went through the legs of Ford, allowing Riley to score, moving the Aggies to within two runs. The rally ended on a fly out to center by Kelvin Freeman.
Palms was able to retire the Aggies in order in the ninth to earn his second save of the season. Zak Hermans (1-1) picked up the win for the Tigers who improved to 3-7 on the season.
The Aggies return action Tuesday evening at 6 against Davidson on the road.
