WILMINGTON –
North Carolina A&T's offense never could get on track Tuesday
night as
UNC Wilmington defeated the Aggies 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-12) in
volleyball action at Hanover Hall.
The Aggies never entered positive territory in terms of a hitting
percentage despite playing tough through every set. Tiffany Mellette
led
the way with six kills, while Janae Mitchell and Mellette recorded
seven
digs apiece.
N.C. A&T got off to a slow start as the Seahawks jumped out to a
12-3
lead in the first set and led by as many as 13 before taking the set.
The second set saw the Aggies come out much stronger.
Three straight UNCW attack errors followed by a Bridget McCaskill kill
gave the Aggies an 8-5 lead in the second. The Seahawks rallied to tie
the set at 12. But Kaneisha Winfield's service ace kept the Aggies in
the lead. Kills by Anna Price and Kimberly Friedl put the Seahawks in
the lead.
After a service error by the Seahawks tied the set at 14, UNCW scored
the next nine points to take over the set.
The Aggies will return back to action Friday as they will open the
N.C.
Central Volleyball Tournament in Durham against Delaware State at 11
a.m. Later in the day, the Aggies will face Hampton.
