GREENSBORO
– The
North Carolina A&T volleyball team had trouble sustaining its
momentum
on Friday in a 3-1 loss (25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13) to Norfolk State
at
Corbett Sports Center.
Tiffany Mellette led the Aggies with 14 kills and eight digs. Junior
Bridget McCaskill added six kills and 10 digs.
Friday's match saw the Aggies go from a 16-point loss in the first set
to a thrilling win in the second set. The Aggies rallied from a 16-12
deficit to tie the game at 21 on an attack error by Tracy Copley. The
Spartans regained the lead on a Nicole Kessner kill, but the Spartans
followed that with a service error which allowed the Aggies to tie the
set again.
Mellette gave the Aggies the lead off a kill from setter Amber Inman
that landed just inside the 10-foot line for a 23-22 lead. After a
McCaskill service error, Mellette sliced another kill between the
Spartans defense for a 24-23 advantage. An attack error by Elayne
Greer
tied the match at 1 apiece.
But the Spartans used effective frontline play to recapture the
control
of the match. The Spartans recorded 11 team blocks led by Charlotte
Armstead's four solo blocks. Angie Clewis added five block assists.
Armstead and Copley had 12 kills apiece.
