CONWAY, S.C. - A devastating fourth inning led LaSalle to a
7-2 win over the North Carolina A&T softball team Saturday afternoon in the
Coastal Carolina Invitational. Earlier in the day, the Aggies lost to Coastal
Carolina 9-0.
Against LaSalle, Dominique Smith went 1-for-3 with a run
scored. Both Juanita Jernigan and Sabrina Edmonds drove in runs as Edmonds hit
a solo home run.
Jernigan gave A&T a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an
RBI single through to score Dominique Smith from third. The inning ended on an
Edmonds fly out as the Aggies left three runners on base. Those three runners
would prove costly in the fourth inning.
The Explorers brought 11 batters to the plate in the fourth
inning. They scored all seven of their runs in the fourth inning to take command
of the game. Danielle Cullen's two-run RBI gave the Explorers a 5-1 lead. Alyssa
Bitsimis and Breanna DiTommasa ended the inning with RBI singles to give
LaSalle a commanding 7-1 advantage.
Edmonds hit her second home run of the season in the sixth
inning, but the Aggies went down in order in the seventh inning.
In the day's first game, Hope Fletcher went 2-for-2 for the
Aggies. A&T will play their final day at Coastal Carolina's CCU Softball
Field on Sunday. The Aggies dropped to 3-12 overall.
