Alex Purviance enters his second season as North Carolina A&T’s tight ends coach after being retained and promoted by head coach Shawn Gibbs prior to the 2025 season. Purviance originally joined the Aggies staff in April 2023 as a defensive assistant and has continued to serve in multiple roles while helping develop the program.

 Before arriving in Aggieland, Purviance served as the secondary and defensive line quality control coach at Yale University during the 2022 season, helping the Bulldogs capture the Ivy League championship. He previously worked as the outside linebackers quality control coach at Furman University after beginning his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, William & Mary, where he served as a defensive and special teams quality control coach.

 A former linebacker at William & Mary, Purviance played four seasons for the Tribe and appeared in games over three consecutive seasons. He played under former NC A&T head coach, Vincent Brown, who served as William & Mary’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during part of Purviance’s career. In addition to his contributions on the field,  Purviance earned CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll recognition.
