North Carolina A&T director of track and field programs Allen Johnson named Quamel Prince as his new cross country/distance coach on Oct. 28, 2022.

Prince will coach the Aggies men's and women's cross country teams in the fall and the men's and women's distance runners during the indoor and outdoor seasons. He comes to North Carolina A&T after spending one season with George Washington University.

Prince still competes professionally for the District Track Club of Washington, D.C. In July, he was a 2022 Commonwealth Games Championship qualifier in the 800 meters (Birmingham, England). Ranked as high as 48th in the men's 800m, Prince is a top-100 runner worldwide in the distance.

He was recently an 800m finalist at the 2021 South American Championship, representing Guyana and finishing fifth overall. He holds multiple national records for Guyana in the Indoor 800m, Indoor 1000m and Outdoor 800m. Prince also competed on the international stage at the World Championships in Qatar in 2019.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., Prince became one of the best track and field athletes in Tennessee State history. He won five Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championships during his career (2013-17), including three 800m titles. In addition, Prince won the 400 and 800m indoor titles as a senior and helped the Tigers earn a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Those accolades propelled him to win the recognition of OVC track field athlete of the year and TSU athlete of the year. In 2015, he earned OVC co-athlete of the year.

Prince qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round three times in the outdoor 800m from 2015-17. He also qualified for the U.S. Track & Field Championships in the 800m in 2017.
