NORFOLK, Va. – The North Carolina A&T bowling team is on its way to its sixth straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular-season championship after going 4-0 on the first day of MEAC Meet #2 hosted by the Norfolk State Spartans at AMF Lanes on Saturday.
The Aggies, who moved up one spot in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) to No. 12, are in first place with a 9-2 MEAC record and in position to win the regular season once again in the MEAC after a strong day from MEAC Preseason Bowler of the Year, sophomore
Victorya White. White had a total pinfall of 893 over four games in traditional team matches, averaging 223.25.
A&T totaled 4,073 pins to average 203.65 for the day. White started her terrific day by posting a total pinfall of 260 to help the Aggies defeat Coppin State 978-877. Junior
Payton Hartgrove contributed with a 192 total pinfall. The Aggies continued to roll over the competition in their second matchup of the day, defeating UAB 1,018-991.
Sophomore
Jasmine Hall led the Aggies with a 257 total pinfall. Freshman
Sara Giraldo made her impact felt by contributing a 212 total pinfall, and White kept bowling well with a 205 total pinfall. After defeating the Blazers, the Aggies faced a MEAC title contender in Delaware State. Four Aggies crossed over the 200 total pinfall, led by Hartgrove.
Hartgrove bowled a 258 to lead the Aggies to a 1,093-890 win over the Hornets. White continued to showcase her talents, posting a 246 while junior
Savannah Burgin entered the A&T lineup for the first time on Saturday to bowl a 222. Hall completed A&T's stellar play against the Hornets with a total pinfall of 205. The Aggies took down Morgan State in their final matchup.
Hall, Hartgrove, Burgin, and White stepped up to the lane for the Aggies, and they were joined for the first time on the day by freshman
Charisse Graham. A fresh Graham led the Aggies with a total pinfall of 234. Hartgrove added a 198 total pinfall, and Hall totaled 192 pins in A&T's 984-885 win over Morgan.
Hartgrove averaged 209.25 and totaled an 837 total pinfall. Hall added a 820 total pinfall for the Aggies to average 205 over four games. The Aggies will go back to work on Sunday, hoping to make their sixth straight MEAC regular-season title official.
