SALISBURY, NC – The North Carolina A&T women's tennis is back to its winning ways. After a six-match losing streak, the Aggies have won three straight, including Friday's 5-0 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears at the Livingstone Tennis Courts.
Friday served as a makeup match from February 21, when A&T's season opener got postponed because of inclement weather. After more than a month's delay, the Aggies were able to defeat the Blue Bears to improve to 8-6 during the 2025 season.
Livingstone and A&T decided to make the doubles matches count individually instead of playing for a doubles point by winning two out of three doubles matches. The two teams played two doubles matches, with A&T winning both.
It started with sophomore Randy Rakotoarilala and junior Hana El Sherif defeating Monica Castaldo and Shonte Sargeant 6-0. The Aggies took a 2-0 lead when freshmen Juana Gomez Weiss and Flavia Villegas crushed Aida Garba and Gianna Felder 6-1.
The combinations of Rakotoarilala and El Sherif and Gomez Weiss and Villegas have both won three straight doubles matches.
The Aggies and the Bue Bears played only two singles matches played on Friday. Villegas won by forfeit due to a Livingstone injury, giving A&T a 3-0 lead. Rakotoarilala at No. 1 singles and freshman Dorsa Cheraghi at No. 3 did not complete their matches. Meanwhile, the Aggies did claim victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
Gomez Weiss won at the No. 2 position, beating Sargeant 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, El Sherif secured a 6-0, 6-2 win over Garba.
A&T returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, when it travels to Elon, NC, to face Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) foe Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center starting at 2 p.m.
