TOWSON, Md. – The seventh-ranked North Carolina A&T bowling team had the highest total pinfall at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Meet #1 hosted by Morgan State at AMF Towson Lanes on Saturday. But the Aggies went 2-2 on the first day, while the Delaware State Hornets and the Coppin State Eagles both went 4-0 during Baker format play.

A&T totaled 3,687 over 20 games bowled to average 184.4. Del State, the 23rd-ranked team in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, had a 3,551 total pinfall, and Coppin's total pinfall was 3,516.

The Aggies started the day against Coppin with senior Juliana Sams at the leadoff spot, followed by junior Savannah Burgin, junior Payton Hargrove, sophomore Tiana Cruz, and anchor Victorya White. The Eagles had a dominant first two games, out-pinning the Aggies 414-329. A&T closed the gap a bit in the third game, out-pinning the Eagles 222-203. However, the two teams tied in the fourth game, 182-182, and Coppin had a slight edge in the fifth game, going on to win the entire match 978-907.

UAB took its turn at trying to knock off the five-time defending MEAC regular-season champs, but was not successful. The Aggies moved Hargrove to the leadoff position, followed by Burgin, two-time reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week Sara Giraldo, and Cruz. White moved to the No. 4 spot, and sophomore Jasmine Hall became the anchor.

Like the Eagles, the Blazers got off to a fast start against the Aggies, coming out of Game 1 with a 195-142 advantage. UAB entered Game 4 with a 61-pin lead before the Aggies caught fire, out-pinning the Blazers 236-163. A&T maintained that momentum into Game 5 to defeat the Blazers 934-866, moving to 1-1 on Saturday.

Against Del State, White moved to the leadoff spot, followed by Hall, Cruz, Hargrove, and Burgin. The Hornets took a significant lead out of Game 1, out-pinning A&T 214-136. A&T made up ground in Game 2 with a 204-163 showing, but the Aggies could never quite overcome the Game 1 result.

Del State out-pinned A&T by 15 in Game 3 by one in Game 4 before the Aggies put together a 204-194 advantage in Game 5. But it was not enough as the Hornets defeated the Aggies 925-882 before A&T faced its final opponent of the day, host Morgan State.

White returned to the leadoff spot. Hall moved to No. 2, followed by Burgin and Hargrove, while Giraldo slid to the anchor position. The A&T quintet got off to a good start, out-pinning the Bears 376-323. Morgan got a little closer by taking a 211-188 advantage in Game 3 before closing the match with authority. A&T out-pinned the Bears 400-281 to close out the day to earn a 964-815 win.

MEAC Meet #1 concludes on Saturday with three more Baker format matches. The Aggies will open against Norfolk State before facing 16th-ranked Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard.
