GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T freshman Sara Giraldo recorded her second straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week award after the conference named her rookie of the week on Wednesday following her showing at the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State University (SHSU) at Houston's Emerald Bowl.
Giraldo helped the Aggies post a 10-3 record and a third-place finish at Kat Klash. Giraldo finished 17th overall with an average of 188.2. For the week, she ranked seventh in average per frame (18.84) with 136 complete frames. She ranked fifth in baker average (18.85), fourth in sum of fill percentage (81.8) and eighth in strike percentage (38.7).
The Aggies went 3-1 in traditional play with a key win over the Wichita State Shockers, the fifth-ranked team in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) top-25 poll. The Aggies defeated the Shockers 959-949. They also beat Alabama State, 917-782, and Jackson State, 990-861.
The Aggies also defeated ranked teams, including No. 24 Oklahoma Christian, No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore, and No. 9 Louisiana Tech. Additionally, they beat No. 8 SHSU in a best-of-seven Baker format match on Sunday.
Giraldo and the Aggies head into the first MEAC Meet 18-8 overall. MEAC Meet #1 will be hosted by Morgan State in Baltimore, Md., November 8-9.
