GREENSBORO –North Carolina A&T secured its first set of bowling weekly honors from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Thursday when sophomore Victorya White won MEAC Bowler of the Week and freshman teammate Sara Giraldo was selected MEAC Rookie of the Week.
For White, a freshman phenom a year ago, it marked the sixth time she has won a weekly honor from the conference. She has four bowler of the week accolades and two rookie of the week recognitions. Giraldo has weekly honor No. 1
White, the MEAC Preseason Bowler of the Year, helped the Aggies post an 8-5 record at their season-opening tournament, Destination Orlando at Orlando, Fla.'s AMF Sky Lanes, over the weekend. She delivered a dominant performance, ranking first in average per frame (20.73), first in Baker average per frame (20.44), and first in overall fill percentage (87.1), while tying for the most frames bowled (132).
She also finished second in strike percentage (50.8) and third in makeable spare percentage (85.2). Across five traditional matches, White averaged 212.0 pins per game, finishing sixth overall in the individual standings.
Her top games included scores of 229 and 208, contributing to a total pinfall of 1,060. As the team's anchor, White led the Aggies through competitive Baker play, posting a team-high Baker game of 211.
Giraldo made a substantial impact, finishing the week first in strike percentage (51.2), first in makeable spare percentage (92.9), first in nine-count spare percentage (100), second in average per frame (19.76), and third in overall fill percentage (88.3). Giraldo showcased remarkable consistency in traditional competition, averaging 224.7 pins across three matches with scores of 218, 222, and 234.
Her performance helped propel the Aggies, the seventh-ranked team in the nation according to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), to traditional match victories over Alabama State, No. 10 Maryville University, Saint Anselm College, and No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore. The other ranked teams the Aggies defeated included No. 11 Sacred Heart and No. 9 Tulane.
White, Giraldo and the Aggies return to action October 31-November 2 when they travel to Houston, Texas, to participate in the Kat Klash tournament hosted by Sam Houston State University.
