EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T won a bowling tournament for the second week, and as a result, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rewarded an Aggie bowler for the second consecutive week.
A week after Lauren Tomaszewski won Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) co-bowler of the week, teammate Melanie Katen earned the same co-bowler of the week honor on Tuesday. Katen shared the accolade with Delaware State's Sydney Reardon.
Katen helped the Aggies to an 8-0 mark in the first MEAC Meet held at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del., last weekend. The Aggies defeated three teams in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll's top-25, including host Maryland Eastern Shore, Monmouth and Morgan State.
Katen averaged 19.22 pins per frame in Baker competition and 8.84 pins on the first ball. She converted 42 percent strikes and 84.1 percent spares.
She had an overall fill percentage of 85.2 percent.
This season, Katen has knocked down 2,047 pins for a 10-match average of 204.70. In addition, she has bowled six matches of at least 200, including a season-high 259 against Alabama A&M on Nov. 6. The seventh-ranked Aggies (28-5) finish the fall season in Millsboro, Del., with the UMES Hawk Classic this weekend.
