Aggies Enter Bracket Play at LIU In Seventh Place

MILLSBORO, Del. – Senior Ericka Quesada finished 25th as the North Carolina A&T bowling team finished the second day of the LIU Northeast Classic in seventh place after Saturday's traditional play competition.   

Quesada bowled four 200-plus games, totaling 1,062 pins for a five-game average of 212.4. Despite Quesada's performance, the Aggies had an uncharacteristic day on the lanes, Saturday. The Aggies (38-19) posted a 1-4 record and will enter bracket play on Sunday in seventh place. 

A&T, ranked fourth in the nation in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, started the day with a 1053-1,015 loss to No. 9 Mount St. Mary's. Quesada led the Aggies with a 224. Junior Laura Tomaszewski contributed with a 216, and senior Pamela Warr bowled a 210. 

Eighth-ranked Youngstown State defeated the Aggies 1,048-994 as senior Cristina Acosta led the way with her best score of the day, a 220. Quesada posted a 214, followed by Warr's 195 and sophomore Melanie Katen's 194. 

In their third match, the Aggies did get a narrow victory over No. 22 Lincoln Memorial, 1,071-1,070. Freshman Maya Avilez stepped and bowled her first game of the day, which was an impressive 256. Katen added a 217, and Warr chipped in by posting a 215. 

The Aggies lost their fourth game to the top-ranked team in the nation, Sam Houston State, 1,063-1,010. Quesada had her best game of the day against the Bearkats with a 226. Warr had her second straight game with a 215, and Katen came through with a 201. 

A&T's final match was against the second-ranked McKendree Bearcats. The Bearcats defeated the Aggies, 1,037-938. Freshman Chloe Newberry entered the lineup for the first time on the day and led the Aggies with a 232. Katen finished with a 202 in Game 5. 

Behind Quesada, Warr finished 40th with 1,021 total pins in five games for a 204.2 average. Katen finished 46th with 997 total pins for a five-game average of 199.4. 

Acosta totaled 793 in four games to average 198.3   

Tomaszewski bowled the first two games for a 363 and an average of 193.5. Avilez bowled the fourth and fifth games, totaled 421 pins, and averaged 210.5. Freshman Grace Stull and Newberry bowled in Game 5, with Stull posting a 155. 

In two days, the Aggies have totaled 10,188 pins for an average of 203.8. The Aggies start bracket play Sunday against No. 12 Duquesne. The winner moves on to face the loser of No. 10 Stephen F. Austin and No. 9 Mount St. Mary's.
