Bowling Returns to Action at Competitive LIU Northeast Classic

A&T finishes Day 1 with 5,120 total pins.

The Aggies are in fifth place after the first day of the LIU Northeast Classic.
MILLSBORO, Del. – In a very competitive field with eight of the top-10 teams in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) bowling poll featured, North Carolina A&T finished the first day of the LIU Northeast Classic in fifth place after Friday's Bakers play.  
 
The Aggies are 37-15 on the season as they competed for the first time in two months. 
 
In their first 2022 tournament, the Aggies went 4-1. They knocked down at least 1,000 pins in four of the five matches, with three of those contests against top-10 competition. N.C. A&T recorded 5,120 total pins for a five-game average of 204.8.
 
In the first game, the fourth-ranked Aggies defeated No. 10 Stephen F. Austin 1,023-992. Then, in another classic matchup against No. 3 Vanderbilt, the Aggies lost to the Commodores, 1,148-1,045 to drop to 1-1 on the day. 
 
N.C. A&T bounced back against No. 10 Maryville with a 1,045-956 win before defeating No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 980-847. N.C. A&T finished the day with a 1,027-916 win over Wilmington University (Del.). 
 
Vanderbilt leads the tournament, followed by No. 8 Youngstown State (5,321), No. 3 McKendree (5,248), the top-ranked team in the nation in Sam Houston State (5,143) and N.C. A&T rounds out the top-5. 
 
Saturday continues the tournament with traditional play. Bracket play begins on Sunday.
