EUGENE, Ore. – Former North Carolina A&T hurdler Michael Dickson and former N.C. A&T sprinter Rodney Rowe advanced in their respective events at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials at the University of Oregon at Hayward Field on Friday.
Unfortunately, NCAA women's 100 and 200-meter champion and Aggies sophomore Cambrea Sturgis did not qualify for the 200m final. Former sprinter Christopher Belcher also failed to qualify for the men's 200m semifinal.
Dickson qualified for the 110-meter hurdle semifinals by running a personal-best 13.26. Dickson finished with the fifth-fastest qualifying time, and he finished second in his heat. Dickson will compete in the 110mh semifinals at 9:30 p.m., Saturday. The 110mh final is 10:51 p.m., Saturday.
Dickson ran track and field at N.C. A&T from 2016-19. As an Aggie, Dickson earned first-team All-America honors twice in the 4x100-meter relay and the 110mh. He won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship in the 110mh twice during his career. Dickson also won the MEAC title in the 4x100 twice during his career.
During his indoor career, Dickson also won the 60mh MEAC title.
Rowe qualified for the 200m semifinals on Friday by running a season-best 20.62. He finished fourth in his heat to automatically qualify for the 200m semifinal scheduled for 10:33 p.m., Saturday. The final is Sunday night at 7:52.
