GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T, the 13th-ranked team in the nation according to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), continued its amazing season by winning their ninth consecutive bowling game as the Aggies swept Norfolk State Sunday at Triad Lanes.
The Aggies are now 35-5 ovrall and 7-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). This weekend's competitions against Norfolk State did not count toward the conference. After winning in a baker match and a traditional game over the Spartans on Saturday, the Aggies returned to the lanes on Sunday with a repeat performance.
N.C. A&T started with a 909-688 win in a baker play. The Aggies led 154-147 after Game 1 but looked dominant from there. A&T outscored the Spartans 358-294 over the second and third games combined before blowing the Spartans away with a 196-126 difference in Game 4. It was much the same in the fifth game as the Aggies outpaced NSU, 201-121.
In the traditional game, N.C. A&T defeated the Spartans 987-896 as three Aggies knocked at least 200 pins. Junior Cristina Acosta led the team with a 222 as she ended her day with seven strikes.
Junior Pamela Warr posted a 202, and junior Ericka Quesada completed the 200-plus trio by bowling a 200. Senior Ana Olaya finished just short of 200 at 195 after striking out in the 10th frame.
Over the weekend, Warr led the team with 445 total pins for a two-game average of 222.5. Quesada finished a pin ahead of Acosta with 431 total pins for a two-game average of 215.5.
Acosta finished with 430 total pins for a two-game average of 215.
Olaya finished with 389 total pins for a two-game average of 194.5, while sophomore Lauren Tomaszewski added 200 pins Saturday and Katen bowled Sunday with a 168.
The Aggies continue the season in Smyrna, Tenn., for the 2021 Columbia 300 Music City Classic from March 5-7.
