MILLSBORO, Del. – The North Carolina A&T bowling team overcame a slow start to finish in fourth after Friday's Baker play at the Hawk Classic, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES).
The Aggies began the first day of action against No. 6 Sam Houston State, a game they dropped, 919-881. It was the lowest-scoring game for A&T the entire day.
It was also the only match the Aggies lost.
Game 2 saw a drastic improvement in play as A&T put forth a 1,018 and defeated St. Francis College-Brooklyn. They followed that up with a narrow 996-943 victory over Wilmington University.
Thirteenth-ranked Mount St. Mary's suffered the same fate as the previous two Aggie opponents, 967-917, and A&T improved to 3-1 on the day heading into the final match of Baker play.
The Aggies saved their best game for the last, firing off a 1,107 to beat No. 23 Long Island University and finish the day 4-1.
Saturday will feature traditional play, with student-athletes competing for individual finishes. Seeding for Sunday's bracket play will follow.
