HANRAHAN, La. – The North Carolina A&T won five of the six regular-season bowling tournaments they participated in last season. It appears the trend is continuing.
The Aggies secured their first tournament victory of the 2021-22 season as they won the Colonial Classic hosted by Tulane University on Sunday.
A&t knocked down 13,348 pins over three days and 65 games to average 205.4 pins per game, second only to Sam Houston State's 213.5.
A&T qualified as the No. 2 seed heading into bracket play and began their title quest with a 1,355-1,175 win over top-seed Sam Houston State. The Aggies won the best-of-seven against SHSU, 4-2.
In the semifinal round, the Aggies faced Grambling State and won all four games, handing the Tigers an 822-543 defeat to move on to the championship final in Baker play.
A&T, the No.5 team in the nation according to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), squared off against No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech in the title match. After losing to the Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday, the Aggies avenged the losses with a 1,028-926 win. They won the best-of-seven, 4-1. The Aggies posted a 9-4 record over three days championship with a 9-4 overall record.
Sam Houston State finished third, followed by Stephen F. Austin and Vanderbilt in the top-5.
The Aggies next tournament is the Sam Houston Kat Klash in Houston, Texas, Nov. 5-7.
