SMYRNA, Tenn. – Tenth-ranked North Carolina A&T women's bowling sits in ninth place after the second day of the Columbia 300 Music City Classic after going 1-3 Saturday.
The Aggies recorded 4,699 total pins Saturday for a two-day total of 9,609 pins. They are averaging 192.2 pins to put them 17 behind No. 8 Stephen F. Austin. The Aggies are 51 pins ahead of No. 2 Sam Houston State.
N.C. A&T started with a 991-906 loss to SFA. Their second game was a bye where they knocked down 909 pins. The Aggies fell to No. 21 University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) 999-946 in the third game. They also had a 1,014-1,000 loss to No. 3 Nebraska.
They did defeat Aurora 938-795 in the final game.
Senior
Mia Pope led the team with 1,003 total pins for a five-game average of 200.60 to finish 24
th. Pope recorded four games of 200-plus with her 221 against Nebraska being her top game.
Junior
Cameron Strombeck finished 30
th with 991 total pins for a five-game average of 198.20.
Strombeck's best game was the 224 she scored in the loss to UAB. Strombeck also had a 208 in the win over Aurora. Sophomore
Ericka Quesada finished 54
th with 933 total pins for a five-game average of 186.60. Quesada's best game was the 193 she bowled against Nebraska. She also had a 191 against Aurora.
Sophomore
Cristina Acosta recorded 571 total pins for a three-game average of 190.33. Acosta was excellent against the Cornhuskers by bowling a 227. She had a 187 against Aurora. Junior
Ana Olaya recorded 531 total pins for a three-game average of 177.00. Olaya started out with a 185 against SFA.
Senior
Tyra Merritt recorded 527 total pins for a three-game average of 175.67. Merritt had a 174 against Nebraska and followed that up with a 184 in the win over Aurora.
The Aggies start the best-of-seven baker matches with Sam Houston State. The winner moves on to face the loser of Nebraska and Stephen F. Austin while the loser moves down to face the winner of UAB and No. 16 Tulane.
